The mission: recovery and redevelopment of the ancient native Guardavalle grape
Guardavalle has a very unusual claim to fame. Not only is it the name of the local grape varietal but also the zone of production, generating the name, Guardavalle di Guardavalle!
Its origins are full of mystery. Some associate it with Greco Bianco and some with white Mantonico but today, the Guardavalle grape is at risk as only a few hundred bottles are produced each year from the few remaining vineyards.
Since 2015, Francesco Quaranta (agronomist), Daniele Manini (cellar master) and Cosimo Murace (oenologist and producer) have been working to save this native grape and have produced a Guardavalle still white wine and a sparkling wine.
The recovery of this particular grape demonstrates how a 100% Calabrian grape variety can produce high quality wines that pait beautifully with classic regional dishes of cured meats and mature cheeses or fried fish.
How to participate in the project?
By subscribing to shares, the amount of which can range from 1,000 euros upwards, in relation to the degree of participation in the project and/or by conferring land that can be used for the creation of vineyards, the value of which will be calculated as the membership fee for the project .
Remembering that every 1,000 euros will be recognized an annual bonus of 45-65 euros, this can be used to collect wine and/or use facilities that are part of the widespread hospitality circuit.
The project
Having already identified a market for the Guardavalle di Guardavalle wines, we are moving to phase 2 of the project: creating the vineyards.
This requires the purchase and cultivations of 15 hectares of suitable land for which we are looking to raise €210,000, accessible via the subscription of shares of a specially established LLC which will manage the project, create the vineyards and build a winery capable of producing still and sparkling wine.
The rebirth of an ancient vine, forgotten for years, but which demonstrates its great character in the bubbles!
Guardavalle wine, both in the still and sparkling versions, worthily represents the territory from which it comes.
